When colleges and universities
were first founded, they had "dormitories" to provide a place
for students to sleep. Times have changed. Dormitories
are now residence halls and they have a purpose that involves
much more than sleeping. Western Carolina's Department
of Residential Living has created a variety of learning environments
to meet an array of needs. There are special floors
in many residence halls where tobacco or alcohol is prohibited,
and floors for students who agree to maintain 24-hour quiet.
There is a special floor for older students who have returned
to school and a special floor for students who are dedicated
to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
